BEER GUIDE – JOHN

I discovered my love of craft beer about fifteen years ago whilst living in the Bavarian Alps. I had always enjoyed beer but seeing what small German Craft Breweries could do with water, hops and malt set me off exploring. It didn’t hurt having access to Belgium, Czech Republic and Great Britain. Upon return to the US I made it a point to learn about, brew and sample all craft brews.

I now find myself exploring Reno’s, California’s and most west coast state’s (Colorado is home) craft brew scene. When not at a local brewery or taproom you can find me learning dog agility with Sadie, our 7.5lb athlete. A session with her and you’ve earned your beers which means you’ll find us “hydrating” post session in a local establishment.

Favorite beer(s)?

Basically it’s the beer I’m drinking. I do enjoy a well made IPA as well as German lagers.

What do you love most about Reno’s beer scene?
The community. I know that I can pull up a chair at the bar of any one of the amazing breweries in and around Reno and have good times, good conversations, good food, and most importantly great beer.

Why did you want to be a Beer Guide?
Good beer is meant to be shared, and I take pride in knowing where my food (or drink) comes from. Understanding the history of beer is to pay homage to the many pioneers of the industry and show respect to those sustaining the craft today!

If you could have a drink with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
My dad; he was the life of every party, always smiling and willing to share a story.
