The initiative, Talent on Tap, aims to support the growth and development of future beer industry leaders

City Brew Tours (CBT), an award-winning curator of craft beer tours and experiences in North America, awarded its 2023 Talent on Tap Scholarships to an individual devoted to furthering her beer education. The Talent on Tap Scholarship program was created to support women of color from unique backgrounds who have a desire to make a lasting impact in the beer industry.
LaTreace Harris
LaTreace Harris is a public health epidemiologist and entrepreneur based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Harris runs her own company, the Beery Godmother, where she offers beer education consultant services to breweries and bars. As part of her services, Harris helps businesses develop beer education and training curricula, and helps them develop their own beer education tools.
Furthermore, Harris runs public beer tastings and educational courses to the public to help share her knowledge—and passion—for the wide world of beer.
Talent on Tap Scholarship
Like several of CBT’s previous Talent on Tap Scholarship recipients, Harris found the program through social media channels. Harris applied to the Talent on Tap Scholarship for financial support to enroll in the Brewing Certificate Program at Cornell University.
The Brewing Certificate Program provides in-depth education of brewing science and brewery engineering and is designed to prepare students to enter the craft brewing industry. Topics covered include malt evaluation, water chemistry, hop flavor chemistry, yeast and fermentation, brewing production and more.
Harris plans to use the certificate from Cornell University and her education to continue to build her business as a beer educator.
“It will allow me to insert my own beer experiences into the curricula that I develop, and teach in a way that is approachable and palatable. It will also help me to reach a broader audience as I enhance my own educational acumen,” Harris said.
